The New Canon Project

The New Canon Project is a new joint venture launched with the support of the Sphinx Venture Fund. Rising Tide Music Press, the American String Teachers Association, and the American Choral Directors Association are partnered together to focus on commissioning new works by Black and Latine composers for the orchestra and choral classrooms.

Castle of Our Skins |Boston Public Schools Collection

This exciting collaboration presents new, age-appropriate music for youth ensembles! Composed by African diasporic composers, each work includes a curriculum guide designed to facilitate creative thought and interactive musicianship.

RTMP Charter Collection

Curated from our our original catalog, our Charter Collection presents works for collegiate through professional performance. Composers include Alonso Malik Pirio, Jasmine Pigott, Patricio Molina, Raejean Hill,  Autumn Maria Reed, Manuel Monge-Mata, members of the Chromatic Brass Collective, and winners of the 2022 International Women's Brass Conference Composition Competition.

The Access Project

In the New Year, we will begin to provide access to works by emerging, under-marketed and historical Black and Latine composers. The goal for this new approach is to support composer diversity at the K-12 level by (1) addressing gaps in composers' access to training and (2) making vetted works easily accessible to teachers.

Works will be created through professional development and youth education initiatives and made available through The Press as part of a larger distribution plan. Once works are available through mainstream outlets, listings in our catalog will become links to purchase through your approved vendor.

New Releases

For High Voice & Piano

Commissioned & collected by performer-educator Denise Bird

In March of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic hit our musical community. This shift from gathering to isolation left so many artists at sea,  especially those whose music was just beginning to be heard. As I held a position that made a quick shift to virtual operations, I read posts from friends and colleagues expressing dismay at our new reality and impending lack of work.

Meanwhile, society was embracing a renaissance of artistic self-exploration and one-on-one music learning. One of my own voice students stated that she was interested in learning vocal pedagogy and new songs, but she did not want to sing a bunch of "cringy" music written hundreds of years ago by an exclusive demographic.

The intersection of these two dilemmas and an online post by a friend, Georgeanne Yehling, calling for more music for beginning vocal students brought me to this project. In this anthology, you will find twenty-five commissions for the voice studio. My instructions for the composers were to write a piece around three minutes or less long, with one or two pedagogical challenges for voice and piano, voice and guitar, or solo voice. The intention was to compile an anthology that might reflect the variety and diversity of those who enter the voice studio.
